The Academy Museum Education and Retail teams invite families to meet Lil’ Libros illustrator Luis San Vicente for a reading and book signing of his newest book, Huesos.
The story follows Huesos, Abuelo’s four-legged travieso, and his journey through the afterworld. Children will learn about the special bond between humans and their pets, promoting empathy and compassion in a light-hearted way while also highlighting the roles pets play in our lives. This book also introduces children to the cultural significance of Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead), fostering cultural awareness and appreciation for traditions beyond their own in both English and Spanish.
Following the book signing, join our museum educators in the Shirley Temple Education Studio for a Día de Muertos workshop featuring Huesos! Families can create their own Huesos skeleton puppet and a scene to go with it!
In addition to the book signing and workshop, we encourage visitors to attend our The Book of Life (2014) screening at 11am in the Ted Mann Theater. The screening is part of our weekly Family Matinees film series. A separate admission ticket is required.
Check back soon for upcoming workshop themes!
If you have any questions or need assistance planning your visit, please email museumeducation@oscars.org.

ABOUT LIL' LIBROS
Lil’ Libros was founded by two mothers, Patty Rodriguez and Ariana Stein, who saw that there was a shortage of bilingual books for children. Their mission became to introduce bilingualism and Latin American culture through picture board books. Lil’ Libros was created to inspire parents to read to their children and encourage them to do so in two languages. They believe children’s books are seeds that when nourished allow for a child to turn their dreams into reality. Their goal is to make the world a better place by providing authentic stories that promote inclusivity and love!
