Melanie Griffith plays Tess McGill, a working-class striver from Staten Island who tries to make her name in the corporate world in this hit romantic comedy, directed by Mike Nichols from an original screenplay by Kevin Wade. With Harrison Ford in an all-too-rare rom-com role, the film received six Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Directing, and for Supporting Actresses Joan Cusack (as Griffith’s wry best friend) and Sigourney Weaver (as the conniving boss), and Carly Simon won the Original Song Oscar for her anthemic “Let The River Run.”
