Writer-director Lawrence Kasdan assembled a group of rising stars and top character actors for his lavish homage to the classic Hollywood Western, teaming Kevin Kline, Scott Glenn, Kevin Costner, and Danny Glover as four strangers who join forces against an assortment of evil ranchers and gunfighters. Bruce Broughton’s rousing symphonic score and the sound team of Donald O. Mitchell, Rick Kline, Kevin O’Connell, and David Ronne earned Oscar nominations. Other key creative contributions included John Bailey’s widescreen cinematography, Carol Littleton’s crisp editing, and Ida Random’s period-perfect production design. As the film’s posters promised, “Get ready for the ride of your life.”
