In person: Youn Yuh-jung.

Youn Yuh-jung portrays the grandmother of a Korean immigrant family who embodies precious pieces of the motherland in Lee Issac Chung’s Minari, which won her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Youn’s extraordinary performance shines in graceful subtlety amid unsettling anxieties that often accompany the lives of transplants. Chung beautifully orchestrates his childhood nostalgia into a powerful cinematic work, and Youn’s contribution is a crucial piece that founds the atmosphere, effortlessly conveying the memories of home and a sense of belonging.
