From the Shtetl to the Studio: The Jewish Story of Hollywood
This original short-form documentary, created as part of the museum’s first ever permanent exhibition, Hollywoodland: Jewish Founders and the Making of a Movie Capital, delves into the backgrounds of the industry founders and the nuances of what makes the founding of Hollywood a Jewish immigrant story, characterized by both oppression and innovation.
Narrated by Ben Mankiewicz, the film features archival imagery and film clips, illustrating the larger global context at the turn of the 20th century, as well as personal narratives of the predominantly Jewish founders of the Hollywood studio system.
Screenings of this film are free with museum general admission and for museum members.
