Choose from one of our two school tours offered for fall 2023:

ANIMATION & ME 

Guided School Tour + Studio Workshop for Grades 2–5 

This specially designed tour introduces elementary-grade students to the art of animation. Through a guided tour of our Inventing Worlds and Characters: Animation and Encounters galleries with our trained museum educators, students will learn about animated cinema and the techniques filmmakers use to bring still drawings to life.  

Following their gallery exploration, students will meet in our Shirley Temple Education Studio where they will put pencil to paper and participate in a fun animation workshop.   

Our Animation & Me school tours are held on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10am from September 20 through November 9, 2023.  

Additional Details  

  • Includes a 45-minute Gallery Tour and a 45-minute Studio Workshop 

  • Can accommodate up to 35 students total  

  • One adult chaperone is required for every 8 students in attendance (6 chaperones max) 

  • Admission is complimentary for students and accompanying teachers/chaperones  

  • Complimentary bus transportation is provided, subject to availability 

  • Eligibility for this tour is currently limited to Los Angeles–area, Title 1 elementary schools  

  • Space is limited; reserve early

CLOSE-UP ON ANIMATION

Guided School Tour + Studio Workshop for Grades 9–12

Beginning mid-November, our Close-Up on Animation guided school tour will transport high school students back to the dawn of the animated motion picture and highlight the techniques filmmakers use to bring still drawings to life. Following their gallery exploration, students will meet in our Shirley Temple Education Studio where they will put pencil to paper and participate in an animation workshop led by our museum educators.

Our Close-Up on Animation high school tours run Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10:00am from November 15 through December 7, 2023.

Additional Details

  • Can accommodate up to 40 students total

  • One adult chaperone is required for every 10 students in attendance (4 chaperones max)

  • Gallery stops include Inventing Worlds and Characters: Animation and Encounters, The Path to Cinema

  • Admission is complimentary for students and accompanying chaperones

  • Complimentary bus transportation is provided, subject to availability

  • Eligibility for this tour is currently limited to Los Angeles–area, Title 1 high schools

  • Space is limited; reserve early
