Gallery Spotlight: Archiving the Academy Awards
Gallery Spotlight: Archiving the Academy Awards
Complimentary with general museum admission, the Gallery Spotlight Series is a monthly conversation with featured guests.
The Education and Public Engagement team invites visitors to explore Stories of Cinema, the Academy Museum’s ongoing core exhibition that presents the diverse, international, and complex stories of moviemakers and the works they create.
The Academy Awards have always had triumphs, surprises, and heartbreaks. Since 1929, the Oscars have recognized excellence in cinematic achievements. But what happens after the show ends? How do we remember the show, and most importantly, how do we preserve the movies, memories, and objects from the award show?
Join us in conversation with Awards Collections Curator Heather Sabin and Associate Objects Conservator Rio Lopez with Collections Curator, Laura Mart as they explore the preservation and collecting of Academy Award show history. The conversation will discuss the ways in which the Academy collects, archives, and preserves objects, moments, and fashion from the past 95 years of the Oscars.
The conversation will take place in the Netflix Lounge on Level 2. Visitors are encouraged to explore the Academy Awards History gallery on Level 2 before or after the program.
If you have any questions or need assistance planning your visit, please email museumeducation@oscars.org.
