John Waters’s work has been celebrated in many ways, especially his film Hairspray (1988), which inspired a Broadway musical in 2002 and the 2007 musical film.

Join us at the Academy Museum for an interactive conversation and dance workshop inspired by the vibrant choreography of Hairspray. We will have a guest choreographer leading inspired dances and  conversation about how  different styles of dance contribute to storytelling within the themes of civil rights and racism. This workshop will show you how to do the Mashed Potato, the Twist, and many more iconic dance moves!

This workshop is fun for all ages!
