Color Theory in Motion Family Workshops

Color Theory in Motion Family Workshops

Families will create short, stop-motion animated clips of abstract and experimental images created by mixing and painting with watercolors.

These family workshops are inspired by our new exhibition Color in Motion: Chromatic Explorations of Cinema and the experimental animated short films featured in the exhibition, including:

  • Kreise (1933–34) by Oskar Fischinger

  • Color Rhapsodie (1948) by Mary Ellen Bute

  • Rainbow Dance (1936) by Len Lye

Museum educators will share how to use the color wheel and color theory to mix watercolor paints. Families will paint images to be captured using a stop-motion animation app to create their own experimental animated clip.
