Los Angeles taxi driver Max Durocher (Jamie Foxx) aspires to open a luxury car service business. One fateful night, Max agrees to drive Vincent (Tom Cruise) for a generous sum before discovering the seemingly easygoing businessman has a grisly agenda. Foxx was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role as the distressed driver; the same year, he won Best Actor for his uncanny portrayal of Ray Charles, making him one of three actors to ever accomplish the feat of being nominated for two performances in the same year.
