Out of college, owing rent, and trying to make ends meet as a writer and musician, Apu (Soumitra Chatterjee) finds himself at a friend’s traditional wedding in the country. In a strange reversal of fortunes, Apu himself ends up marrying the bride (an unforgettable Sharmila Tagore). A paean to love, loss, and the bonds of family, Apur Sansar revisits many of the themes and motifs explored throughout the Apu Trilogy and gives them the weight of experience. The trilogy comes to a heartrending conclusion as Apu’s journey reaches full circle.
